How to Measure Guidelines
Using a dressmakers measuring tape, stand upright holding your body in a natural position, keeping your breathing regular. We want your clothing to be comfortable so take care not to pull your measuring tape too tight. Help from a friend not only guides the numbers, it adds to the fun.
Bust:
Place the tape measure under your arms, across your shoulder blades and over the fullest part of your bust. Drop your arms comfortably to your sides.
Waist:
To find your natural waist, stand upright, tilting your body to one side and mark your 'point of fold'. In an upright position measure the waist at this point.
** a dropped waistline (suited for some of today's more casual wear) is measured at 1 1/4" below the natural waist
Hip:
With feet together place the tape measure around the fullest part of your bottom and bring evenly around to the front.
Because our garments are made here, distances measured from the nape of the neck to the natural waist, from the natural waist to the back of the knee, or from the natural waist to the ankle are not often called for but are always very useful in determining the fit of a garment. This holds true regarding the fullness of the bicep or the length of the arm.
